The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lake Michigan Coastal Program Seeks Coastal Resources Planner to Join the Team.

The LMCP provides technical and financial assistance to state, regional, and local partners to protect, preserve and utilize coastal resources. The program also helps coordinate state agency action on coastal management issues. Housed within the Indiana DNR’s Division of Nature Preserves, the Lake Michigan Coastal Program works to enhance the State’s role in planning for and managing natural and cultural resources in the coastal region and to support partnerships between federal, state and local agencies and organizations.   

The Coastal Resources Planner position is responsible for providing coastal management coordination, resources, and assistance to nongovernmental organizations and local, state, and federal stakeholders to ensure long-term sustainability of coastal communities. To accomplish this goal, the position

  • supports LMCP Program Enhancement projects that address coastal hazards, wetland protection, and public access to natural and cultural resources, among other coastal issues,
  • educates and informs coastal decision-makers about tools and resources that can be used to incorporate resilience and sustainability into local planning efforts, and
  • works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams both internally and externally to promote conservation design, sustainable development and resilience principles, ordinance development, and natural coastal resource protection.

H&H Engineer or Staff Engineer - Illinois State Water Survey

The Illinois State Water Survey of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has been a leader in the study of water resources for more than a century.  Our research and service programs provide citizens, industries, and government agencies at all levels with timely, science-based information and analyses necessary to manage our water resources wisely for economic development and a sustainable environment.  

The Coordinated Hazardous Assessment Mapping Program (CHAMP) is looking to fill one or more of the positions:  Hydrologic and Hydraulic Engineer and/or Staff Engineer based upon duties, qualifications, and experience.  The primary function of both will be to conduct and/or review hydrologic and hydraulic studies, communicate results, and prepare technical reports.  The Staff Engineer will be also coordinate with project team, engineers, and GIS Specialists; disseminate results.  Manage projects and solicit external funding through proposal preparation in addition to what is listed above.

Floodplain Manager - Columbus, Indiana

The Floodplain Manager serves as the Planning Department’s primary source of knowledge on community floodplain management, the National Flood Insurance Program, and floodplain development regulations.  This includes serving as the primary point of contact with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  It also includes maintaining a detailed understanding of IDNR and FEMA requirements, policies, programs, training opportunities, and resources.  The Floodplain Manager shall also be responsible for the implementation and periodic review and update of the Columbus Flood Risk Management Plan and the Columbus Flood Response and Evacuation Plan. The Floodplain Manager shall further oversee the administration and enforcement of all local floodplain regulations.  They shall also have responsibility for Department files, reports, and data regarding floodplain issues, programs, developments, and regulations.
