Greg Main photoThe INAFSM Board of Directors announces with much sadness the passing of one of its founders and greatest supporters. Greg Main, NFIP State Coordinator, passed away last week following a long illness. His presence will be missed by so many. Rest in peace, Greg.

Application for the 2017 Sessions of the Indiana Watershed Leadership Academy is Available


The Academy is a 5-month long program including three face-to-face sessions at which attendance is required (see dates and locations below) plus learning modules and web-based meetings that take place between sessions.

 

The Academy consists of the following three mandatory sessions:

  • January 18-19, 2017 at Canyon Inn, McCormick's Creek State Park, Spencer, IN
  • April 5-6, 2017 at Tecumseh Leadership Center, Brookston, IN
  • May 24, 2017 at The Ft. Harrison Conference Center, Indianapolis, IN

The Academy, organized by Purdue University with support from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and other Indiana conservation agencies and organizations, gives participants the chance to: 

Engage in basic and advanced level watershed topics covering leadership principles, watershed science, organization and communication, technology and GIS, stakeholder involvement techniques and policy skills

  • Meet, learn from, and build a network of peers
  • Interact with topic experts
  • Gain strategies, skills, and resources for successful watershed management
  • Earn a Professional Certificate in Watershed Management

White House issues New Executive Order on Federal Flood Risk Management, ASFPM Supports New Standard

The following is from an Association of Floodplain and Stormwater Management news release dated Jan. 30, 2015

President Obama issued a new Executive Order Jan. 30 that proposes a new Federal Flood Risk Management Standard, which the Association of State Floodplain Managers says will ultimately help reduce flood losses and taxpayer costs. Two federal coordinating groups that deal with floodplain management issues– Federal Interagency Floodplain Management Task Force and Mitigation Framework Leadership Group (MIT-FLG) – have been working on the new standard for the past year. The standard would apply to federal actions such as federal grants used for repair and redevelopment after a natural disaster. Click here to read more.
