STORMWATER COMMITTEE

The INAFSM Stormwater Quality Subcommittee which included MS4s addressing their new stormwater quality initiative (Rule 13) concerns and the Stormwater Technical Subcommittee that focused on stormwater BMP design issues have combined into 1 Stormwater Committee.  Bi-monthly meetings will be held in 2008.  Each meeting will have a specific topic and a presentation made by an invited guest.  Typically, IDEM personnel attend these meetings (e.g. Randy Braun and Reggie Korthals) and it is an excellent time to ask questions or make comments.

The goal will be to use our combined resources to offer a variety of activities that will appeal to a variety of stormwater professionals.  Example activities include breakfast and/or twilight seminars on topics of interest such as BMP design.  Also, we are hoping to include special meetings for both Erosion and Sediment Control Inspectors and MS4 Educators in our 2008 planned meeting schedule.  This will give each of these professionals an opportunity to meet, discuss problems, discuss solutions, discuss programs and basically to network with others who share like responsibilities.  These special groups may end up meeting a couple of times a year or even quarterly.

If anyone is interested in such a forum, and more importantly interested in helping to organize the group, we would like to hear from you.  Bill Dials, Stormwater Coordinator for Tippecanoe County, has agreed to head-up an inspectors’ group.  He just needs some help and some inspectors to commit to attend.   Of the six (6) MS4 meetings scheduled each year an effort is made to have one in the south and one in the north because we realize it is a long drive to Indianapolis.  However, keep in mind that teleconferencing is available at all meetings.  You will be given a toll free number to call and you can hear and share in the discussion of each meeting.
